Dorm Design
Your student's dorm room should feel like more than just a place to sleep — it should be a space that inspires focus, comfort, and personal style. PCM Design Studio specializes in dorm room and suite design throughout the DMV, working with families at University of Maryland, George Washington University, Georgetown, Howard University, American University, and Catholic University.
How It Works
The process begins with a phone call and/or a virtual consultation to get acquainted, review the space if possible, and establish your student's vision and needs. From there, an in-person consultation is strongly encouraged — seeing the room firsthand allows Phoebe to design with precision and make the most of every square foot. I am aware that most Universitys do not allow access before 'Move-in-day' so typically all decisions and furnishings are procured prior to the first day of access.
Phoebe enjoys working closely with both parents and students throughout the process. Frequent communication keeps decisions moving efficiently, so your student's space comes together seamlessly — well before move-in day.
What's Included
Design services are available at an hourly rate or as a flat-rate package for dorm rooms and suites. As part of every project, Phoebe passes her designer trade discounts directly on to your family from top vendors including Pottery Barn Dorm & Home, Crate & Barrel, CB2, West Elm, Restoration Hardware, and Design Within Reach, among others — so you get a beautifully designed space at a better price.

Dormitory Suite
Style: Coastal Casual / Warm Neutral
This dormitory SUITE offers a relaxed, lived-in feel that balances comfort and function. Warm honey and cream tones dominate throughout, creating an inviting, cozy atmosphere ideal for studying, socializing, and unwinding. The overall Vibe: Warm, stylish, and welcoming

Shared Double Room
Decor should be custom to each student's personality. The poster collage corner is a creative and space-efficient way to personalize without cluttering multiple surfaces. This is good horizontal use of wall space.

Boys Dormitory Room
This lived-in single student bedroom with genuine personality and some smart design choices, – including the whitewashed shiplap wallpaper as a standout feature – gives the room a cool, intentional aesthetic.

Removable Adhesive Wallpaper — Why It’s a Dorm Room Game-Changer
As seen here, the single whitewashed shiplap accent wall completely transforms the space from a bland institutional bedroom into a personality-filled retreat. The secret? Peel-and-stick removable wallpaper. Horizontal shiplap / clapboard pattern provides an airy clean cottage-inspired mood and it reflects the natural light beautifully, making a small room feel larger and brighter.

Why Just an Accent Wall Works
Doing a single feature wall is the smartest approach for small dorm rooms. It creates depth and dimension without overwhelming the space, draws the eye to a focal point, and lets the rest of the room breathe. One wall. Big impact. Zero commitment.
