The PCM backstory

When I got my own bedroom for the first time, when my parents bought a home in NW DC, I would spend hours before bed and again when I woke up, trying to rearrange space and re-display the books on the shelves. Since I was ten years old I have been obsessed with efficiency within spaces. I designed my built-ins with a carpenter—including a secret drawer masked by an existing baseboard. I thought I was so clever but my brother discovered it soon enough. The truth was, I thought constantly about layouts and space. As I began sketching landscapes and built-spaces I became aware of efficiencies.

Efficiency in a home is reflected in the layout from furniture to flow space: accentuating natural light in window treatments and installing warm LED dimmable lighting; organization is essential from the space within a closet to the configuration of kitchen cabinets. As your designer, my job is to ensure that any renovation, at whatever scale, has an immediate benefit and an investment in your future.

The Space in Between

I care about livable spaces. And I especially care about people and how they use their spaces. Because I am optimistic and enthusiastic by nature, the social component of this job nicely ties in with my desire to always create the best space for the client, inside, outside and the space in between. This means that front steps and porches are the transitional glue to the interior and exterior of a home and should be strongly considered.

My Approach

I take great care, from when we first meet until after the project is complete. Designing someone's home is very personal — it deserves respect and patience and should be a pleasurable, calm process. The homeowner should have a great deal of control in making design selections. I spend time listening, supporting, managing, and assisting the homeowner to ensure the quality of the result. This translates to my construction supervision with my crew, subcontractors, and vendors — all as accountable as I am for your home functioning efficiently. Often overlooked in the industry is the post-renovation clean-up: we ensure that we will leave your house spotless — during and after any project we undertake.

My educational background is as a classically trained architect with a Master's degree in Architecture from MIT. I am also a Licensed Home Improvement Contractor in Washington DC. For the past twenty-five years, I have designed and managed renovations in Italy and the USA. Now established back in DC, I am practicing design and renovation services in the DMV.
